An In-Depth Reading of an Enduring Intellectual Experience … A Journey Through the Thought of Abdullah Dahlan

A new book titled A Journey Through the Thought of Abdullah Dahlan: From Economics to Humanity has recently been published by journalist and economic writer Jamal Banoon. The work goes beyond the traditional approach of biographies or collections of articles, offering instead a comprehensive analytical reading of the intellectual experience of one of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent economic writers.

This publication represents a serious attempt to understand the intellectual journey of Dr. Abdullah Dahlan by tracing his writings, articles, and publications, and placing them within their social and practical context, revealing an integrated vision that sees the human being as the center of development, education as the foundation of transformation, and economics as a tool for creating impact.

In this work, Jamal Banoon draws upon an in-depth reading of more than 2,000 articles written by Dahlan over a period of more than twenty-five years in several of Saudi Arabia’s leading newspapers, including Okaz, Al-Madina, Al-Watan, and Al-Bilad, where he became well known for his continuous presence, his balanced treatment of economic and social issues, and his thoughtful reading of societal transformations.

The book does not merely document the subjects Dahlan addressed; it goes further by analyzing his method of thinking and uncovering the threads that connect his diverse interests, beginning with economics, extending through education and development, and culminating in the human dimension that constitutes one of the most distinctive features of his intellectual approach.

In this context, the book highlights how Dahlan views economics not simply as numbers and equations, but as a tool for change that is closely linked to people and reflected in the quality of their lives. This perspective is clearly evident in his articles and publications, which combine theoretical analysis with practical experience.

The book also sheds light on the evolution of this intellectual vision from newspaper articles to books. Dahlan has authored dozens of books in the fields of economics and sociology, including The Ambition of a Nation, Leadership: Theory and Practice, Economic Blocs, and other works that have become important references for understanding developmental transformations.

This publication is distinguished by its calm analytical style, which goes beyond presenting ideas to seeking an understanding of them, connecting them to one another, and presenting them as an integrated vision that invites readers to reflect on the relationship between thought and reality, and between vision and implementation.

The book also explores the human dimension of Dahlan’s experience through a reading of his book Love Over Fifty Years, presenting it as a model that demonstrates how values and human relationships can contribute to building balance and stability, and become part of the equation for success.

This work adds a new dimension to the Arabic library in the field of intellectual studies by presenting a model for examining contemporary experiences not as a mere narration of events, but as journeys that can be understood, analyzed, and interpreted to derive their deeper significance.

The book is expected to attract the interest of readers concerned with economic and intellectual affairs, as well as researchers specializing in development and transformation, thanks to the vision it offers—one that combines analysis with depth, and experience with ideas.
